About
"What We Could've Been" is a fan-made digital zine centered around the headcanon ship between Brian Stells and Kevin Woodings from the analogue horror webseries "The Walten Files", created by Martin.
The zine will delve into our fan-interpretation of the dynamic between Brian and Kevin, based on what we know of their backstories and the significant roles they play in the series.
The zine will contain major spoilers for the series. We must also issue a content warning for depictions of gore, death and grief.DISCLAIMER!
Many of the contents of this zine are not entirely canon to the series, nor is this ship canon to the series, and we do not claim any of this to be canon. The contents of this zine are fan-interpretations of the characters's dynamics based on what we currently know from the lore of the series. This project is also NOT intended to put pressure onto Martin to make this ship canon. Our main objective is to host a project to create fan-made content and give to the community, knowing that there is a visible audience that's supportive of this ship. We hope to have fun in this big venture!
FAQ
Will there be physical copies of the zine?
The zine itself will be exclusively digital, however, we have plans to make and ship physical merchandise!
For-profit or non-profit?
We hope to be able to make our zine for-profit, meaning all contributors eligible for pay will be financially compensated for their work! However, if sales will not allow, then we will consider donating our funds to charity!
How will contributors ineligible to be payed be compensated?
If there will be contributors unable to be payed, whether because they are underage or don't have easy access to money transferring services, they are sure to be sent all digital and physical merch of their choosing, if shipping allows!
How many contributors will be included?
So far we have 14 contributors in our project; all page artists, 7 merch artists and 3 writers!
Is Brian x Kevin canon?
It's not canon, and we always make sure to specify that this zine, along with the ship, is strictly headcanon, even if loosely inspired by our current knowledge of the series' canonical lore. We also highly discourage pressuring Martin into making fan ideas canonical, since The Walten Files is his project!
Is the zine SFW?
The only thing that will be considered NSFW is the depictions of blood and gore, considering the characters are from an indie horror series. There will be no sexual or suggestive content in any of our products. We do not condone the sexualization of any of Martin's characters, which includes all characters featured in this zine.

Hey Hi Hello, you can call me either Sloth or Sam! I'm the main host, moderator and artist for the zine! Although I have experience in working for several zines as an artist, this is my first time actually creating one! I'm currently a hobby-level digital artist aspiring to apply for and graduate art school and professionally draw full time. As of now, I'm occupying my time by starting and participating in projects such as this! The Walten Files was a huge game changer and source of inspiration and motivation for me, drawing and creativity wise, from all the way back in August of 2021. The characters Brian and Kevin have also had special significance to me since the beginning, especially as a queer person. Discovering this ship and using it to explore their dynamics and personalities, at least according to my personal interpretations, has made me grow very fond of them. And so, a year later, I've come here to kickstart this zine, and I can't wait to help give to the audience, as Martin is giving to us!
